Les dispositifs publics interconvictionnels en Europe

Since the 1990s, strengthening the structures of a true democracy has given rise to a broad movement in political philosophy and public policy devoted to the theme of participatory democracy: opening up democracy to cooperation between all citizens and social actors through mechanisms of collective deliberation that reinforce public reason and complement the work of parliaments. Beyond pure utopia, beyond certain disillusions and certain forms of instrumentalization, various initiatives and mechanisms have been gradually put in place in all European countries, starting with the European Commission itself. This book is devoted to one of the most symbolic and sensitive challenges of this evolution in forms of participatory democracy: the role that religious or humanist actors may play in it, without discrimination. More specifically, it examines legal initiatives taken by public authorities to activate new forms of multilateral dialogue with these actors in various forms of public platforms. New trends of social polarization are leading some states to strengthen such mechanisms, while others seem to be abandoning them in the face of democratic fatigue. This book, the result of two combined research projects, provides a long-term observation between 2000 and 2025.
